WAVENY ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER
WAVENY ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER
The Louis Lapham Estate, known as Waveny, now Waveny Park was added to the National Register of historic places on September 19, 2019. The New Canaan Preservation Alliance facilitated this successful nomination by advocating for its listing by presenting to the New Canaan Town Council for approval; developed an RFP for professional consultants to research and prepare the nomination, and provided the funding after securing a grant from the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office. The result is a document which documents the history of Waveny beginning with the natural environment, a brief history of indigenous people in the area, early settlement, and ownership and development by the Thomas Hall family, the Lapham family, and finally the Town of New Canaan.
